"WILMERDING, CHARLES H. -- Born at New York city, August 19, 1858. Son of Charles H. and Harriet Burnham Russ Wilmerding. His first paternal ancestor in America was his great-great-grandfather, who came from Brunswick, Germany, and settled in New York. On his mother's side the first known ancestor came from England in 1617, and settled in New England. Charles Henry Wilmerding received his education partly in Germany and France, and in this country attended Yale College. He came to Chicago in 1888, having been educated as a civil engineer, and practiced that profession from 1879 until coming to this city. Since that time he has been engaged as an electrical engineer. Mr. Wilmerding has paid considerable attention to electrical matters and has become identified with several corporations of that character. He is the general manager of the Chicago Arc Light and Power Co.; is president of the Chicago Sectional Electric Underground Co., and president of the Compress Wheel Co. Mr Wilmerding is rather socially inclined and holds a membership in the Chicago, Union, Athletic, Literary and Electric clubs. He was married June 12, 1889, to Miss Lily Valeria Fay, and has two children, Valeria Fay, and Charles Henry Wilmerding, Jr.".

June 13, 1889 - "St. James Church was the scene of a brilliant and fashionable wedding last night at 7 o'clock. The bride was Miss Lillian Fay, sister of Norman Fay of the Chicago Gas Trust, and the groom was Mr. C.H. Wilmerding, Secretary and Treasurer of the Chicago Arc Light and Power Company. The bridesmaids were Misses Bowes and Ely, and the ushers Messrs. H Wilmerding, Fred Swift, Arthur Aldis, Stuyvesant Leroy, James Deering, A.S. Nonticote, G.L. Wilmerding and Richard Fay. After the ceremony the bridal party and a number of friends were given a wedding supper at the residence of Mr. Norman Fay, No. 43 Bellevue place. Mr. Wilmerding and his bride left after the reception for an extended Eastern trip.".

November 16, 1888 - "Death of a Venerable Episcopal Minister.
The Rev. Dr. Charles Fay, some time a resident of this city, died at the house of Mrs. M.F. Peirce, No 7 East Thirty-first street, New York, the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 6, 1888. He was buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass, upon the Friday following.
Dr. Fay was born in Cambridge July 21, 1808, and was therefore in his 81st year. He was the son of the Hon. S.P.P. Fay and his wife, Harriet Howard Fay. He was graduated at Harvard - as were his father, grandfather and great-grandfather - in the celebrated class of 1829, of which he was the valedictorian. Among his classmates were the Rev. James Freeman Clarke, Dr. Oliver Wendal Holmes, Prof. Benjamin Peirce, the Rev. Charles F. Smith, the Rev. Samuel May, William Gray, and other noted men, and was the fiftieth of his class to depart this life. Twelve survive, several of whom were present at his funeral. He was married twice; his first wife was a daughter of the Rt. Rev. J.H. Hopkins, Bishop of Vermont, and his second, who survives him, is a daughter of the Hon. Samuel Adams of Grand Isle. He was for forty years a successful minister of the Protestant Episcopal Church, chiefly in the Diocese of Vermont, but had long retired from active service.".

"Samuel Phillips Prescott Fay, son of Jonathan Fay, of Concord, was born in that own January 10, 1778, and graduated at Harvard in 1803, in the class with John Farrar, James Savage and Samuel Willard. He was admitted to the Middlesex bar in 1803 and first settled at Cambridgeport. He was a councilor in 1818-19, member of the Constitutional Convention of 1820, and an overseer of Harvard College from 1825 to 1852. On the 12th of May, 1821, he was appointed judge of Probate and afterwards lived in old Cambridge until his death, May 18, 1856."

May 20, 1856 - "DEATH OF JUDGE FAY. The venerable Hon. Samuel Phillips Prescott Fay, of Cambridge, died in that city on Sunday last. The deceased was Judge of Probate for Middlesex County for a long term of years, and was a man universally respected and esteemed. He was the disciple of Dr. William E. Channing, Judge Story, Rev. Dr. Tuckerman, and other noted men, having graduated at Harvard in 1798. His age was 78.".
