April 5, 1974 - "CLEMENT -- Stuart H., in North Haven, Conn., Apr. 2, 1974 of 178 Bishop St., New Haven. Husband of Margaret Bush Clement. Father of Mrs. Henry W. Estabrook of North Haven, Stuart H. Clement Jr. of Rye, N.Y. and Samuel Prescott Bush Clement of New Haven. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at Battell Chapel, New Haven, Friday, April 5 at 2 P.M. Contributions may be made to the New Haven Foundation.".

June 2, 1993 - "Margaret Bush Clement, an aunt of former President Geroge Bush, died on Saturday at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was 93 and lived in Hamden, Conn.
She died of cancer, a spokesman for the Hawley Lincoln Funeral Home in Guilford, Conn., said.
Mrs Clement was the daughter of Samuel Prescott and Flora Sheldon Bush, President Bush's grandparents. In 1911 (1919) she married Stuart Holmes Clement of Buffalo and moved to New Haven, where she served with numerous civic organizations, including the Red Cross, the United Way, the Women's Auxiliary of New Haven Hospital and the New Haven Tuberculosis Association.
Mrs. Clement served as trustee of the Westover School in Middlebury, Conn.
She is survived by two sons, Stuart Holmes Clement Jr. of Saybrook, Conn., and Samuel Prescott Bush Clement of Litchfield, Conn.; a daughter Mary Bush Clement Estabrook of North Haven, Conn.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.".

SAMUEL P. BUSH, 83, A STEEL EXECUTIVE - Ex-Head of Buckeye Casting Co. Succumbs in Ohio - Once on War Industries Board.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb 8 (AP) - Samuel Prescott Bush, retired industrialist and chairman of the first war chest drive in 1914, died today in the University Hospital at the age of 83. For many years he was a member of the National Association of Manufacturers' executive committee, and he was first president of the Ohio Tax League.
Mr. Bush was president for twenty-two years, until his retirement in 1928, of the Buckeye Steel Casting Company of Columbus. Previously, for eighteen years, he had been with the Pennsylvania Railroad as a superintendent of motive power. He retired a year ago as a director of the Norfolk & Western Railroad.
In 1931 Mr. Bush was a member of the commission appointed by President Hoover to deal with problems of business and unemployment relief.
In the first World War, he was on the War Industries Board, of which Bernard M. Baruch was chairman, and he was closely associated with Mr. Baruch in later years.
Born on Staten Island, on Oct. 13, 1864, Mr. Bush was the son of the late Rev. James Smith Bush, a Protestant Episcopal minister, and the late Harriet Fay Bush of Boston. He was graduated in 1884 from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, from which he received an honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering in 1947.
Mr. Bush had been an Elk and a member of the University and Engineers Clubs of New York. At one time he was a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.
After the death in 1920 of his first wife, the former Flora Sheldon of Columbus, he married Martha Bell Carter of Milwaukee.
Besides his widow, he leaves two sons, James S. of St. Louis, and Prescott S. Bush of New York and Greenwich, Conn., who is with Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co., and two daughters, Mrs. Frank E. House Jr., and Mrs. Stewart H. Clement of New Haven, Conn.

Note: Both the 1920 and 1930 OH census state that Samuel was born in New Jersey, not Staten Island as reported in the obituary.

September 15, 1920 - "WESTERLY, R.I., Sept 14 -- The death of Mrs Samuel Prescott Bush, of Columbus, O., a wealthy summer resident killed by and automobile at Watch Hill September 4, was due to criminal negligence, Coroner Everett A. Kingsley reported today. Herbert Davis of Mystc, Conn., a broker, is held in bonds of $3,000 on charges of manslaughter in connection with the death. Mrs. Bush's husband is president of the Buckeye Steel Company.".

December 27, 1943 - "NEW HAVEN, Conn., Dec 26 -- Mr. and Mrs. Burton Parker Twichell of this city have announced the engagement of their daughter, Harmony, to S. Prescott Bush Clement of this community and Charlottsville, Va.
Miss Twichell was graduated from Milton (Mass.) Academy and Vassar College in 1943. She is a granddaughter of Mrs. Charles M. Pratt of Glen Cove, L.I. and the late Mr. Pratt, and the late Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Hopkins Twichell of Hartford.
Mr. Clement, an alumnus of the Pomfret (Conn.) School, attended Williams College. He is a grandson of Samuel Prescott Bush of Columbus, Ohio, and of Mrs. S.M. Clement of Buffalo, N.Y."

June 25, 1944 - "NEW HAVEN, Conn., June 24 -- The marriage of Miss Harmony Twichell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Parker Twichell of New Haven, to S. Prescott Bush Clement, of the faculty of the Pomfret School, son of Lieut. Stuart H. Clement, USNR, and Mrs. Clement of New Haven and Charlottesville, Va., took place here today in the Marquand Chapel. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Joseph H. Twichell of Windson, Conn.
Miss Peggy Twichell was maid of honor for her sister. The bridesmaids were the Misses Mary Bush Clement, sister of the bridegroom; Ann Campbell, Jane Day and Ann Rose of New Haven; Laura Broks of Bennington, Vt., and Lovel Price of Scranton, Pa.
Lieutenant Clement was best man for his son.".
