May 18, 1904 - "Mr. Oliver Willard, aged 68, of Charleston, died suddenly of heart disease, early last Thursday morning. The deceased retired the evening before in apparently his usual health, and at midnight or shortly after, he called his wife, complaining of nausea. He got out of bed and sat up in a chair and while his wife was out of the room he fell to the floor, dead. Mr. Willard's death is mourned by a host of friends and the suddenness of his demise came as a great shock to the whole community.
He is survived by his wife and five children - Mrs. Clayton Bostwick, of Delmar, Mr. Alfred Willard, of Roundtop, Mr. Nathan Willard, of Lumbecreek, Mr. Martin Willard, of Wellsboro and one daughter at home.
Funeral services were held from the home on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Joseph Dennis officiating. Burial in the Shumway hill cemetery.".

June 16, 1897 - "Last Wednesday Mr. Alpheus Willard was assisting in raising the frame of a barn on the Seely farm, near the Shumway school-house, when he fell from a plate struck upon his right foot, breaking both bones just above the ankle joint. Dr. M/L. Bacon reduced the fractures."
August 18, 1897 - "Mr. Alpheus Willard, an old resident of Charleston township, died last Friday at the age of 85 years.".

April 30, 1862 - "A Puritan Relic, Mr. Oliver Willard of Charleston, now in his 80th year, has an ivory snuff box, which was brought to this country by Joseph Willard a passenger in the May Flower. The box is 3 inches long, 2 inches wide and about half an inch deep, and is locked by two silver clasps, upon which are marked the initials "I.W." It has descended as an heir loom from Joseph Willard (father) to Joseph Willard (son) for 9 generations in this country and has never been out of the Willard family since 1620. How long it was in the family before Joseph Willard landed at Plymouth Rock is not known. It is quite a curiosity, and suggests many reflections. Although made for a snuff box, it certainly could not have been used for that purpose during the residence of the family in Plymouth Colony; and the "blue laws" of a later date made the snuff a contraband abomination.".

"Mrs. Hannah Willard, widow of late Oliver Willard, died at the residence of her son, Alpheus Willard, Esq., in Charleston, Dec. 23d inst., in the 86th year of her age. Mrs. Willard and her husband came to this country 61 years ago, and settled on the farm where she died. At this time this whole county was a howling wilderness. The site of Wellsboro was a forest and Charleston and Delmar has scarcely a dozen families. There were no gristmills nearer than Williamsport on one hand and Painted Post on the other. For some years the early inhabitants suffered what we should call great privations. Jonnycake, and front, and venison, made up the principal bill of fare, but it nourished a hardy race. The primeval forests have melted away before them. Mrs. Willard was one of the last if not the last, of the first class of settlers in this county."
Oliver and Hannah were living with Alpheus and his wife in 1860. She was misidentified in the census as Nancy.

Know all Men by these presents that we Roswell Bailey, Robert Bailey & Asenath Bailey wife of Robert Bailey of Tioga Township in the County of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania Yeoman for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty Dollars to me in hand paid before the signing and Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Do give bargain, Sell, alien Sell and convey unto Josiah Bennett in Township No. 5, Steuben County and State of New York, one certain Mesuage or tract of Land lying in said Township and County aforesaid Containing one hundred acres: Bounded as follows Beginning at a White oak tree, the north west corner of Jacob Boyes lot, Running North 95 perches and three tenths thence east 168 perches thence South 95 p.s. and
three tenths then West 168 p.s. to the place of Beginning Containing one hundred acres being confident equal in Quantity and quality to one other hundred acres of land lying north of the tract above described. To have and to Hold the above Granted and premises with the appurtenances and priviledge thereunto belonging to him the said Josiah Bennelt his heirs and Assigns forever Baily and the said Roswell and Robert Bailey and Aseneth for ourselves our Heirs Executors and assigns do covenant with the said Josiah Bennett that the Signing and Scaling of these presents, we have good right to convey the same in manner and form aforesaid as a good Indefeasable Estate in fee simple and by these presents Bind ourselves our Heirs, Executors, Administrators & assigns to Warrant & Defend the above Bounded Premises unto him the said Josiah Bennett his heirs and assigns against all claims titles, or Demands Whatsoever, In Witness whereof we have hitherto set our Hands & Seals the 18th day of June 1808.

Thomas McBurney one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the said County, Nathan Niles one of the subscribing Witnesses to the within Deed who after being duly Sworn according to taw doth depose and say that he saw the within Grantors to this deed sign, seal and Deliver the same as their Voluntary act and Deed and that he likewise saw Sylvester Bailey subscribe his name as a witness to this Deed, 1 having examined the said Aseneth Baily
Seperately and apart from her Husband who Acknowledged her Signature of this Deed to he a voluntary act of her own without any compulsion on the part of the said husband, I having examined the same do find no Material Interlineations nor erasures but those noted before Signing, Do permit the same to be recorded.
