From the Wellsboro Agitator.

April 16, 1889 - "Mrs. Hart was the first woman to serve as postmaster in Wellsboro. For a number of years she was preceptress in our schools. During her term the postage rate was decreased to two cents per half ounce and to two cents per ounce in 1885. Louis Doumaux, another veteran of the Civil War, took over the office August 10, 1886, and served until he was succeeded by James L. Whits on February 1, 1891. Mr. Doumax moved the office to the store now occupied by the Lush Brothers store and Mr. White moved it next door above to the building afterwards occupied by the Advocate office. In 1889 revenues of the office had increased to $5,368.08.".
