From the Wellsboro Gazette.
November 14, 1924 - "James Crichton, aged 42 years, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. R.A. Lorenz, at Linwood, Pa., on Sunday Nov. 9, following months of intense suffering, heroically borne.
Mr. Crichton was born in Antrim in 1882, son of Robert and Agnes Crichton. His boyhood was spent in Wellsboro, where he attended school and graduated in the class of 1902, and later at Phillips Academy, Andover. For several years prior to the world war, Mr. Crichton was successfully engaged in business in the west. In 1917 he enlisted in the American Expeditionary Forces and served one year in France. The hardships he endured at that time served to undermine his reserve strength which was needed to combat the illness that later attacked him.
On October 12, 1923, he was united in marriage to Miss Edith Bailey, daughter of the late L.L. Bailey. They resided in Wellsboro as members of the household of Mrs. Carrie Bailey, until Mr. Crichton's physical condition made his removal to Philadelphia imperative.
The deceased is survived by his widow and four sisters and one brother -- Mrs. F.S. Austin, of Corry, Pa.; Mrs. A.E. Wetmore, of Glenside, Pa., Mrs. F.H. Foster, of Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. R.A. Lorenz, of Linwood, Pa.; and T.A. Crichton, Esq., Cashier in the State Treasury Department at Harrisburg, who maintains his law office and residence in Wellsboro.
The remains were brought to Wellsboro on Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Crichton on Pearl street this afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. O.G. Cocks, officiating.
Mr. Crichton was a modest, retiring, kind man, with a fine mental equipment and a character of strength and integrity. The deepest sympathy goes out to his bereaved widow and devoted relatives.".
