From the Daily Kennebec Journal.

October 8, 1877 - "Dea Gideon Barton of Windsor, has been spending a few days with friends and relatives in this city. He is probably the oldest man that walks these streets, being in his ninety third year. He is a little deaf, but reads the finest print without the aid of glasses. The deacon well remembers Augusta when there were but few stores in the vicinity of what is now Market square, and now and then a dwelling house on the hill.".
