"Joel Sanford Couch, who has a large knowledge of mechanical appliances, is located in Corning N.Y., where he has a garage and some property, and has been an alderman. He was in business in Odessa for several years before going to Corning. He married Lucile, a daughter of Dempster Partello, who was a teacher in the Odessa school, and a graduate of Alfred University. No issue."
"The Episcopal parsonage was built by Edward DeWitt, and purchased by Joel and Lucille Couch after his death. Joel Couch was a plumber and tinsmith and has wife was a teacher in the primary room of the Odessa school. When they removed to Corning to reside they sold the house to Benjaman Boyce, in 1914 for a residence for their rectors."
"After the bank moved to their new building, there have been several meat markets in the Paine store: Albert Ash, Albert Algers, Asa Beardsley, Drake & Smith, and now for about seven years Charles Carrigan.
There are two good-sized halls over these two stored and in former years dances were held there. Joel S. Couch had a barber shop, watch repairing and bicycle shop over store No. 2, and when his brother-in-law Clarence Partello came and learned the barber trade and took that shop, Couch moved across the hall, where he had billiard tables with his repair shop. When these men moved away, the Odd Fellows, who were occupying the second story over the Carey blacksmith shop, moved to the building, and took over both halls, except for a front room on the end building which was occupied by the Library, since moved to Merchant Ave. The Couch holdings were sold in 1929, and the Odd Fellows bought these two buildings, continuing to occupy the second floor and renting sores. Charles Carrigan is in Store No. 2 and the Re & White in the end store at present.".
