"Jean LaPratt, 70 of Alba died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord. She was born Dec. 25, 1933 in Otsego County, the daughter of Troy and Iola (Borst) Kimbler. She was a resident of Alba since 1979. She owned and operated the Green Lantern Bar in Alba since 1980. She was a member of the Antrim County Snowmobile Club, the Alba Sportsman Club as well as the Mancelona Moose Lodge. She was one of the founders of the Alba Kids Day and for the past 10 years she was a sponsor for the Wertz Warriors Special Olympics.
She enjoyed writing letters, doing puzzles, going to the casino and most of all she enjoyed spending time with children. On Aug 1, 1952 in Alba, she married Donald LaPratt who proceeded her in death. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Joan Bailey and Shirley Carpenter, two brothers, Don and Ron Kimbler, and her parents.
Surviving are four children, Preston (Laura) LaPratt of Rochester Hills, Donna LaPratt of Alba, Lori (Doug) Sheridan of Mancelona, and Perry (Penny) of Alba. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 31, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. The Rev. Sam McClellan officiated. Interment was in Star Township Cemetery in Alba. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.".
