"One of the briefest pleading that has come under the eyes of Clerk Ortnei and his deputies was filed yesterday by Attorneys H.R. Deeley and >>> Stewatt, of Norwalk. It is Henry Baatz reply to the answer of his wife, Amelia Baatz, to his petition for divorce.
Baatz employed thirteen words in this reply as follows. "Plaintiff for reply to defendant's ????-petition denies each and every allegation therein." Mr. and Mrs Baatz live near the eastern county line.".

"WIFE INSISTS SHE WAS MISTREATED. Mr. Baatz Denies Husband's Charge of Unfaithfulness And Charges Plot.
Emphatically denying all the charges of unfaithful conduct made by her husband Henry Baatz of Florence township. Amelia Baatz pictured her life with him as that of a white slave in her testimony in the divorce suit of her husband concluded Friday morning in the common pleas court.
My husband compelled me to take entire care of twenty head of cattle and seventy head of sheep and I had to do the work in my bare feet because he would not buy me shoes she declared. My old slippers wore out and he refused to purchase any more footwear.
I bought chickens and geese with my own money and my husband sold them and pocketed the proceeds, she said. I had but one hat in four years and he was furious because he had to pay for that.
Mrs Baatz created a sensation by declaring that her husband asked her to be friendly with ??? Freeze their hired man.
He owed Freeze a lot of money for work and wanted to scare him into leaving the house she declared.
The entire morning was consumed with the testimony of Mrs. Baatz. Judge Reed reserved his decision in the case."

From The Evening Telegram, Elyria, OH, January 3, 1912.

"LEGAL NOTICE IN DIVORCE.
Amelia Baatz, defendant, whose residence is unknown, will take notice that on the 27th day of December, A.D. 1911, Henry Baatz, plaintiff, filed his petition in the Cort of Common Pleas of Lorain County, Ohio, being cause number 11,347, praying a divorce from said defendant, on the ground of gross neglect of duty, and asking for divorce and custody of minor child and equitable relief.
Said cause will be for hearing on and after the 8th day of February, A.D. 1912. HENRY BAATZ. L.B. Fauver, R.H. Rice, Attys.".
