November 30, 1917 - "While handling lumber at the May Lumber Yard, Thomas Carter had the misfortune to run a large sliver into his hand. Although painful, no serious results are expected."

June 7, 1918 - "Thos. Carter has received word from his son, Ray, that the latter has arrived in Macon, Georgia. He says it is a city of about 75,000. About five miles from Macon are the camps with 60,000 boys. In that section farmers have their wheat and oats all cut and peaches and cherries are ripe. It is very warm there."

They made the trip by auto and visited a week at the pleasant farm home of Mr. and Mrs. John Molter. The latter was formerly Miss Cora Jones, of this place, and is a sister-in-law of Mrs. Carter. The tourists found stone and gravel roads all the way to Beaverton. Corn and beans are very good in that section; also an abundance of apples and plums. They have to prop the trees to keep them from breaking. Beautiful farm houses, churches and school houses, making it a very beautiful place to live in."
