March 7, 1935 - "William H. Shepard, 89, Cazenovia's last Civil war veteran, died at his home in that village, February 19. He was a native of DeRuyter, of a pioneer Quaker Basin family, and served with the 22nd N.Y. Cavalry; was a prisoner at Libby six months, during which time his weight shrank fro 178 to 94 pounds.. He leaves a widow and one son, Dr. Harris B. Shepard, both of Cazenoovia.".
