March 26, 1885 - "Recaptured -- Charles Chaphe, a native of Cazenovia, was arrested in East New York last week Monday, and taken to Syracuse, where he was wanted for grand larceny. In 1883 he was charged with having removed from the novelty works of N.K. Brown in Syracuse $500 worth of Brussels carpets and had them billed for Cazenovia. He was indicted by the grand jury and released on bail furnished by his parents. He subsequently disappeared, and when an attempt was made to recover the amount of the bail, it was found Mr. Chaphe had assigned his property. Charles Chaphe had made good his escape until this time.".
