H. BROWN ( - )

1 H. Frank BROWN1 ( - ) [14831]. Marr Grace A. LANGDON 2 Sep 1891, Mansfield, PA.1

From the Wellsboro Agitator, September 9, 1891.

"He Forgot the Marriage License. The marriage of Mr. H. Frank Brown, of Corning, and Miss Grace A. Langdon, of Mansfield, was announced to take place at the bride's home last Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. The guests were all assembled, the wedding feast was spread, and the bride and groom had donned their wedding garments when Rev. David Keppel, the leader of the ceremonies, asked for the marriage license. The groom admitted that he had forgotten all about that little business matter and then there was consternation all around.
The clergyman offered to help them out of the difficulty by going with the couple on the train to Lawrenceville and performing the ceremony in New York State. But the bride's parents preferred to have their daughter married at home, and they objected to anything which would look like dodging the law.
The groom therefore secured a livery rig and came to the county seat after the license and the grass didn't grow under his feet either. It is presumed that he was not in as good humor as a man ought to be on his wedding day. The ceremony was performed immediately upon Mr. Brown's return to Mansfield, and after being duly united according to law the couple left for their new home at Corning.".
