April 26, 1928 - "PORTLAND, April 25 (AP). - Earl Simons, 40 drowned in Willamette river today when the rowboat from whch he had been fishing filled with water and sank. A companion was rescued by other boatmen. Simon's body sank before rescuers could reach him."

April 27, 1928 - "PORTLAND, OR., April 27, - L.F. Russell, a Portland policeman, today posted a $50.00 reward for recovery of the body of Earl Simons drowned Wednesday in the Willamette river Russell is related to Simons by marriage. Police were grappling for the body today.".
