We originally showed him as John T. based on the 1900 census. His marker (Find-A-Grave Memorial Record) clearly shows John F. The T in the 1900 census could easily have been an F. This also shows a birth year of 1890 while the 1900 census clearly shows October 1891.2

Diptheria Killed Father and Mother.
Jamestown, N.D., April 20 -- Diptheria, attacking father, mother and their two children, aged 4 and 6. killed both parents while the lives of the children have been spared, is one of the saddest tragedies Jamestown has known.
Mr. and Mrs. John McGinnis, both well known young people of Jamestown, were the victims of diptheria, dying at Glendive, Mont., where their children still are ill, but both well on the road to recovery.
The remains were brought to jamestown for burial.5

The obit for John H. McGinnis appeared in the September 29, 1921 Jamestown Weekly Alert. We currently showed that he was born in October 1855 from the information proviced by Elaine Bell. This reports that he was born in December 1856 in Monroe County, NY.7

From Elaine Bell, "In October 1878 John, his wife Margaret (nee McPherson), along with their five adult children (Margaret, Janet, Mary, Ronald and John) emigrated to North Dakota. Travelling with them was Thomas Wildridge Bell, a son of Angus - this provides a link, presumably a family link, between John and Angus.".
