"The first log house in Manchester is said to have been built by Samuel Rose, the Tory, in 1764 in the southwest section of the town close to Mount Equinox. In 1769 Rose also built the first framed house of the settlement."

Manchester, Vermont. It is said that Samuel Rose built the first building on the farm now owned by Hon. J.S. Pettibone, probably about 1764-5. He also built the first frame house 1n 1789, at which time almost all of the inhabitants were from Dutchess County. Samuel Rose was appointed to act on committee with regard to the title of the New Hampshire Grants of land-title in dispute. (Mar. 12, 1776, see Vol. I, Vermont Historical Gaziteer, p. 192).

"ARIE ROOSA - He was born in Harwynen, Gelderland, Holland, and he came to New Netherland, in the ship "Spotted Cow" with his father, Albert Heymann Roosa in April, 1660. In 1670 he was a Private in the Marbletown Company commanded by Captain Henry Pawling, in which his father was Sergeant. In 1700, he was Commissioned Captain in the Ulster and Dutchess Counties Regiment, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Rutsen. In 1680, with Jan Eltinge, Gerrit Aartsen, Hendrik Kip and Jacob Kip, he was granted a large tract of land in Duchess County. This was called the "Arie Roosa Patent," and it embraced fifteen hundred acres opposite Rondout Creek, near Kingston, and extending along the bank of the Hudson river. He married Maria, daughter of the Schepen Evert Pels. Roosa settled on this grant and he lived there his remaining life.".

ALEARDT, Aldert or Albert Heymanse Roose came to this country from Harwyen also spelled Herweyen, in Gelderland, Holland, on Waal river, five miles west of Bommel. Or it may be the present Heywennen, a short distance east of Bommel in Gelderland or the present Herwen in Gelderland twelve miles southeast of Arnhem. With him came his wife, Eyntje (Lavina) Allard or Ariens, and eight children in the ship Bontekoe (Spotted Cow), Captain Peter Lucas April 15, 1660, and settled in the Wildwyck district of Esopus, now Kingston, Ulster County, New York. Of these eight children: Heyman, born in 1643, married Maritje Roosevelt. Arie, born in 1645, married Maria Pels. Jan, born in 1651, married Hellegond Williamse Van Buren. Ikee or Aaghe married Dr. Roelof Kiersted. Maritje married Laurens Jansen. Neeltje married Hendrick Pawling after Nov 3, 1676. Jannetje married Mattys Ten Eyck at Hurley Nov. 16, 1679. Aert. Two other children were born to him and his wife after coming to New Netherland, viz; Annatje and Guert."
Did not adopt Roosa surname until 1680's in New York.
