"TAINTOR is an occupational surname from taintorer, a dyer. The family has been represented in England since 1222.

Elizabeth Rose dau of Robert. Michael was the Master of a ket
trading out of Branford to Virginia in 1653 and had owned oth
ships. Recorder of Branford 1667- deputy to Conn. Gen Court;
Judge of Court. A man of prominence and influence in the community."
