April 22, 1874 - "The Rose House is thriving as usual under the management of the widow, who is determined to make the hotel as popular as ever."

According to "The Rose House", however, a new landlord took over almost immediately but by 1877 Virgil Rose (brother of Martin) appeared to be the real owner.

In the 1880 census, Jane is found in Clio, married now to Alden Varney. Jenny and Henry are 13 and 11 and Jane's mother, Sarrah Goodale, is also living with them.
