Note on Marriage to Otto George SHUMAN: From the Eccentric June 15, 1911.

Wednesday evening June 9, (Wednesday was actually June 7) at 8:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rose, their eldest daughter, Viola Irene, was married to Otto Shuman both of Clayton. To the strains of the Lohengrin wedding march played by Miss Hazel Mundy, of Flushing, cousin of the bride, the couple descended the stairs unattended and took their places in an alcove of ferns and roses, where the Rev. Passmore of Swartz Creek, performed the ceremony. Little Opal Shepard, niece of the groom, acted as flower girl. A dainty lunch was served to 100 guests. The misses Perry, Glass and Moss, of Flushing, acted as waiters, these being classmates of Mrs. Shuman. Mrs. Shuman is a niece of Richard H. Rose, of this Village.

From the Flushing Observer, Thursday, December 29, 1938. "Daniel L. Rose, well known farmer who resided south of Flushing on the Seymour Road near Corunna Road, passed away this morning, Thursday, at his home, following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon from his home, with Rev. Bert Ede, of Swartz Creek officiating; burial will be at Flushing.".

"MRS. DANIEL ROSE - Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. for Mrs. Anna Rose, aged 73, of Clayton Township, who died Thursday afternoon at her home following a heart attack. She had been in ill health for some time. Mrs. Rose was born in Clayton township, April 2, 1869, and had spent the greater part of her life in that vicinity. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane Darling Mundy. She was married to Daniel Rose Feb. 22, 1886 at the Methodist parsonage at Flushing, Rev. Sweet officiating. Mrs. Rose spent the last 31 years at the home in which she passed away. Her husband died Dec. 29, 1938. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Otto Shuman of Swartz Creek and Mrs. Lottie Ganssley; one brother, Raymond C. Mundy of Flint; four grandchildren, Mrs. George Wilcox, Arlene Shuman, Pvt. Wendell Shuman of Fort Devens, Mass., and Martina Ganssley; also several nephews and nieces. Mrs. Rose was a member of the Swartz Creek Chapter, 430, OES. Services were conducted by the Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. Sellers of Swartz Creek Methodist church officiating.".
