White Pigeon; George W. Cumberworth, 81, 202 N. St. Joseph St., died Feb. 15, 1994, at the Elkhart, Ind., General Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 8, 1912, in Brown City, a son of Ernest and Alice (CAPPS) CUMBERWORTH.

On May 4, 1953, he married Maxine A. Kirton, in Plymouth.

He had lived at Walled Lake before moving to White Pigeon. He had been employed at the Ford Motor Company, Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II as a fire chief, he was a meat cutter 60 years working at several stores including the IGA, White Pigeon, and Central Meat Market, Sturgis; and for 20 years he and his wife had owned and operated the Tower Motel, White Pigeon. He was a member of the White Pigeon Bowling Association, a volunteer foreman for the city of Milford, a golf instructor at State Line Golf Center, Sturgis, and secretary-treasurer of the St. Joseph Valley Golf League. He also served as a caddy for golf pro Tommy Armor.

Surviving are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Tim (Judith) HANCOCK, Waterford, Sherry LITTLE and Mrs. Daniel (Debra) SLACK, both of White Pigeon, and Mrs Vance (Carol) ERBE, Union; two sons, George William CUMBERWORTH, Clarkston, and Rick DAVIS, Northville; 16 grandchildren; eight great0grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Vern (Lois) BOLTON, Waterford, Mrs. Don (DORIS) CHANEY, Nakomis, Fla, Mabel SMITH, Houghton Lake, and Mrs. Harold (Jean) RAETZKE, Troy; one brother, Kenneth CUMBERWORTH, Homestead, Fla; 28 nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Relatives and friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the Farrand Funeral Home, White Pigeon, where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today and 3-5 and 7-9 p.m Friday. Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Barbara V??Essendelft, White Pigeon First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in White Pigeon Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Alice Cumberworth

Mrs. Alilce Mary Cumberworth, 58, of 119 Ruth Street, died at Pontiac General hospital at 7:30 p.m. Friday. She had been ill four months. Born in England, Dec 15, 1888, she was the daughter of George and Jane Meyers Capps. She married George E. Cumberworth in Boston, Eng. in 1912. She came to Pontiac from England 35 years ago. Besides the husband she is survived by three sons, George of Milford, Kenneth and Leslie of Pontiac; five daughters, Mrs. Jean Raetzke of Royal Oak, Mrs. Dorothy Gidcumb, Mrs. Mable Smith, and Doris and Lois Cumberworth, all of Pontiac, and two brothers and three sisters in England. Funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Bethany Baptist church, with the Rev. F. R. Tiffany officiating. The body will be at the Pursley Funeral home until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Perry Mt. Park cemetery.

White Pigeon; Maxine A. CUMBERWORTH, 76 of 607 E. Chicago Road, White Pigeon, al local motel co-owner and manager for 20 years, died April 9, 1977, at her home.

She was born March 24, 1920, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, a daughter of Nelson and Irene (KIRTON) ROBERTS.

On May 4, 1953, she married George W. CUMBERWORTH in Plymouth. He died Feb. 15, 1994. They moved from Walled Lake, Mich. to White Pigeon in 1958.

A former co-owner and manager of the Tower Motel in White Pigeon for 20 years, she retired in 1975. She was a member of the White Pigeon Women's Bowling League.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Daniel (Debra) SLACK of White Pigeon, Sherry LITTLE of Lebanon, Tenn., and Mrs. Vance (Carol) ERBE of Union; one son, Rick DAVIS of Northville, one stepson, George W. CUMBERWORTH of Clarkston; 16 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank WOODMAN of Hazel Park and several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, and her stepfather, Peter OWAD.

Relatives and friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Farrand Funeral Home of White Pigeon, where services are at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Helen H. Collins of the First Presbyterian Church of White Pigeon officiating.
