1 Emma Augusta ACKLEY1,2 (1879-1952) [7576]. Born 29 Mar 1879, Millington, MI.1,3 Marr Aaron Louis HARTER 14 Jun 1911, Luce Co., MI.4 Died 26 Nov 1952, Pentland Township Hall.5 Buried Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, MI.6

From Newberry Briefs in the Evening News, Sault Sainte Marie, MI.

November 25, 1952 - Mrs. Augusta Harter returned home Saturday from Luke;s Hospital in Marquette and is confined to her home. Mrs. Harter fell at her home November 12 and fractured her left leg six inches above the knee.".7,8

There is some confusion in the records concerning Emma. First, she is variously shown as Emma (or Emma A.), Augusta (or Augusta A.) or Amy Augusta. From the records we have sourced, it seems likely that Emma Augusta Ackley is correct. Secondly, different sources provide different birth dates. We currently show November 1879 based on The Descendants of Edward Ackley but this is likely incorrect. The correct birth date is probably March 29, 1879 in Millington from Tuscola County Birth Register.

Enlisted into Company D, 50th New York Engineers, on the 29th of January, 1864, he was wounded by a explosion of a shell at Fort Hell (real name was Fort Sedgwick, In Petersburg, Virginia) Virginia on the 28th of September 1864 to the chest, gun shot to the right arm at Halctez (should be Hatcher's Run) Run, in Virginia on the 28th of October 1864, right arm, plus developed diarrhea for his pension case. He was discharged on the 13th of June 1865. James went AWOL in the month of February or March of 1864, at Elmira, New York, but gave "delivered himself up" on the 21st of June 1864.

Length of service was 1 year, 4 months and 15 days. Pension was for gun shot wound in left breast and chronic diarrhea.

12 James WRIGHT19,27 (1801-1864) [148]. Born 1801, New Jersey.16,28,29 Marr Jemima CLARK bef 1831.19 Died 3 Apr 1864, Tioga County, NY.28 Buried Lounsbury Cemetery, Tioga County, NY.28

The death certificate of son, George W. Wright, lists his father as "John Wright". This error caused a many year delay in locating the correct parents of George W. Wright.

In the 1860 NY, Tioga, Tioga census the wife of James Wright is shown as "Anna". We believe this is in error as both James and Jemima are buried together in the Lounsbury Cemetery, Tioga County, NY. There is no evidence that James had other than one wife, Jemima Clark.

Find-A-Grave lists his birth year as 1810. This appears to be in error based on his age of 63 at the time of death in 1864 and the age reported on the 1850 and 1860 census.

Probate record from the village of Owego, County of Tioga, January 20, 1866.

In the 1850 NY, Tompkins, Danby census, Jemima is listed as a person who cannot read or write. In the 1860 NY, Tioga, Tioga census, she is incorrectly shown as Anna with no indication that she cannot read or write.
