"PERKINS, Betty M. - Age 72, of Lake City, formerly of Flint, passed away March 17, 1997 at Cadillac Mercy Hospital. She was born September 11, 1924 in Flint to Oliver and Blanche (Parks Wright. She married Raymond. N. Perkins in Flint on June 29, 1946. Mrs. Perkins worked as a switchboard operator for the Hurley School of Nursing in Flint, retiring in 1986 and moving to Lake City. She attended the Lake City United Presbyterian Church. Surviving are: husband, Raymond; 2 sons, Robin and wife Karen Perkins of Swartz Creek, Steve Perkins of Clio; 2 brothers, Jim Wright of Arizona and Howard Wright of Louisiana; 1 sister, Mary Ellen Friend of Flint, 1 granddaughter, Dana. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 1997 at Lake City United Presbyterian Church, Rev. Bruce Brooks officiating. Burial at Lake City Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes.".

Enlisted into Company D, 50th New York Engineers, on the 29th of January, 1864, he was wounded by a explosion of a shell at Fort Hell (real name was Fort Sedgwick, In Petersburg, Virginia) Virginia on the 28th of September 1864 to the chest, gun shot to the right arm at Halctez (should be Hatcher's Run) Run, in Virginia on the 28th of October 1864, right arm, plus developed diarrhea for his pension case. He was discharged on the 13th of June 1865. James went AWOL in the month of February or March of 1864, at Elmira, New York, but gave "delivered himself up" on the 21st of June 1864.
Length of service was 1 year, 4 months and 15 days. Pension was for gun shot wound in left breast and chronic diarrhea.
