July 18, 1934 - "Wilson R. Hubbard, aged 70 years, a former Tioga County Treasurer, died July 7, at the Blossburg hospital after a long illness; burial at Mansfield. Mr. Hubbard was born in Richmond township, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Hubbard. He was an invalid for many years, due to an injury to his back, but during his later life had almost completely recovered.
Since entering the hospital on April 2, he submitted to two operations and his many friends were hoping that he was making progress towards recovery. Early July 7 he suffered a heart attack, and he died before his relatives could reach his bedside.
Wilson Hubbard was the son of Delos W. and Roxania Burley Hubbard and was born in Richmond Township, January 15, 1864. He was graduated from the Mansfield State Normal School in 1882 and from Coleman's Business College in 1885. He taught four terms of school, one at Elk Run, two at Little Marsh, and the fourth near Mainesburg, known as the Doud school. After graduating from the business college he was offered a position on it's faculty but refused it to teach at Little Marsh in order to be nearer home.
While working in the woods he received an injury to his back in June, 1887. For 15 years after he was unable to walk and never fully recovered from the effects of the accident.
On March 17, 1909 he married Lidah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Sparling. Mr Hubbard was for many years a faithful member and efficient worker in the Mansfield Methodist church. The funeral, which was conducted by Rev. D.W. Baylis, was held in the Mansfield Methodist church. The pallbearers were: C.C. Howe, E.L. Fuller, G.B. Strait, Charles Hawley, W.H. Killbore and B. Smith. The large number present and the beautiful floral pieces testified to the high regard in which he was held. The unwavering courage and Christian fortitude with which he bore his suffering will always be remembered by his friends.
He was secretary of Grange Mutual Fire Insurance Company for may years, was active in Grange work and served as County Treasurer from 1924 to 1928. For the past several years he had been employed by Elwin C. Hawk as Manager of Hawk's East avenue garage. He is survived by his widow, two children, Lawrence and Wilda, and a brother, Clarence Hubbard.".
