March 17, 1938 - "Knoxville Man Appointed as Flying Cadet in U.S. Army. Theodore R. Aylesworth, Knoxville, principal of the Nelson High School, received his appointment on March 10, as a flying Cadet in the regular army air service and left Monday to report at Harrisburg on his way to the Army Flying School at Randolph Field, Texas, where he expects to be stationed for three years. Aylesworth is a graduate of Knoxville High School, class of 1932, and the Mansfield State Teachers College class of 1936 and has been in the teaching profession at Nelson since graduation.
He was a Sergeant in Co. E 103rd Medical Regiment of the National Guard of Pennsylvania at Mansfield, from which he was honorably discharged when he received his appointment to Randolph Field. He is a brother of Mrs. Walter W. Swimley, of Knoxville, who accompanied him to Harrisburg on Monday."

June 5, 1939 - "Lieut. Theodore R. Aylesworth of Langly Field, Va., arrived in Knoxville Saturday to visit his grandmother, Mrs. Lovina Landis and his sister, Mrs. Walter Swimley and family. He was accompanied by Mrs. Aylesworth who will spend two weeks visiting her mother and other relatives."
May 15, 1940 - "Knoxville, May 14 - "Assistant Superintendant of Schools, Walter W. Swimley and wife, received a telegram Wednesday from Mrs. Swimley's brother, Lieut. Theodore R. Aylesworth of Langly Field, Va., who with a crew of six including his co-pilot, Lt. Libby, making a flight in an Army bomber, landed at the Elmira airport. Mr. and Mrs. Swimley arrived at the airport in time to see the landing of the ship. Lt. Aylesworth was formerly of Knoxville."
December 13, 1944 - "Theodore R. Aylesworth, 30, formerly of Mansfield, now serving in the Army, has been promoted to Colonel, according to work received from the Ninth Air Force Bomber Base in France.
Colonel Aylesworth commands an A-20 light bombardment group which was the first United States A-20 unit to enter the European air war from British bases and the first to bomb western Germany.
He was graduated from Mansfield State Teachers College in 1936.
His wife, the former Miss Wilda Hubbard, of Mansfield, resides in Elmira."

June 15, 1945 - "The "Famous 416th" Bomb Group, commanded by Colonel Theodore R. Aylesworth of Knoxville, Pennsylvania, was the first to fly the Invader, the Army's newest, fastest, and most versatile bomber, in the European Theater of Operations. Prior to V-E Day, the "Famous 416th" also gained the distinction of being the first bomber group in the Ninth Air Force to attack targets in both Czechoslovakia and Austria.".
