The many friends of Mrs. Harriet Rice Birks, wife of William T. Birks, will be grieved to learn that she died of cancer Saturday, October 14, 1911, at Reno, Nevada, where she was buried.

The family moved to Madeline Plains, California, in 1908, but resided there only one year when they returned as far as Reno and settled there. She leaves a husband, seven children, a father and considerable number of other relatives to mourn her sad loss.

Her father, William K. Rice, if Centreville is a pioneer of 1847 and is nearly 90 years old. He had two wives, both dead, and there were twenty four children. Mrs. Birks was a little over forty-four years old, was born in Farmington, June 1, 1907, married in 1888 and moved to Salt Lake City in 1900; from there she went to California eight years later. All of the children and several of her brothers and sisters attended the funeral.

She was a teacher in the Relief society in Salt Lake City and was a highly intelligent and dearly loved wife, mother and neighbor and will surely receive a great reward in the mansions above, where the righteous rest from their earthly labors.".
