December 25, 1958 - Home Near Tioga Destroyed Sunday. The Charles Burrows home off Rt. 84, two and one half miles toward Elmira from Tioga Junction, burned to the ground Sunday noon. Cause of the fire was not known.
Damage was estimated at $5,000 in the Burrows fire. Lawrenceville Fire Chief Richard Bates, made the estimate, said part of the loss is covered by insurance. The Burrows family has been relocated in a house near their former home.
Ironically the fire occurred as a group of "Good Samaritan" neighbors were aiding the Burrows in laying in a supply of firewood. Mr. Burrows has been ill for some time. He was employed by the Elkland tannery. He drove 2½ miles to summon firemen, who. although unable to save the house, kept two barns from burning.
An appeal for clothing, food and household items was immediately launched by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bradshaw of Lawrenceville. Mr. Bradshaw represents the Salvation Army and Mrs Bradshaw the Red Cross."
February 21, 1963 - "Fire Plagued County Over Week-End; Wellsboro Department on the Job.
The worst of the spate of fire left five persons homeless at Jackson Summit. Charles Burrows smelled smoke at about 6 o'clock in the morning. He roused his wife and three small children who fled the burning 3-room wooden house. Burrows ran two miles to call the Lawrenceville Department, but by the time the men reached the scene the house was beyond saving. Everything the family possessed was lost in the flames."
