September 26, 1945 - "Harry Soper, aged 50 years, was instantly killed Thursday afternoon, when the gravel tipple he was operating collapsed, spilling tons of rock and gravel on him.
He was working with the Bare Engineering Company at Lawrenceville. Nobody saw the accident as other employees were working further down the road, but it is believed the machine was overloaded and the framework collapsed.
Dr. Robert Leonard, of Tioga, was called, and in the absence of Coroner Harry Williams, Carlos P. Darling, of Lawrenceville, acting as Coroner, gave a verdict of accidental death.
The accident was investigated by deputy Sheriff Arthur Locke, of Wellsboro, and Pvt. R.L. Knowles, of the Mansfield Station, State Police.
The body was take to the Soper-Mosher funeral home in Troy where services were held Sunday, Rev. J.D. Griffiths, of Mansfield, officiating; burial in the Watson cemetery in Rutland.
Mr. Soper leave four brothers, Guy, of Troy, R.D., Roy and Willis, of Rutland, and Earl, of Mansfield, R.D., and one sister, Mrs. Margaret C. Sweely, of Rutland.".
