August, 1971 - "Elmer Avery, age 77, of Troy RD 1, Saturday July 31, 1971 at the Troy Community Hospital. Friends may call at the Vickery Funeral Home, Troy, Pa., Sunday 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service there Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. Owen Barrett. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Survived by wife Creasie Avery, sons Donald of Troy, Dale of New Holland, Pa.; sister Mrs. Nelle Wolfe of Troy; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was born in Roseville, pa., merchant in Troy for a number of years; member of Sylvania Church of Christ, where he was a deacon and elder; Trojan Lodge No. 306 F&AM, past master, 50 year member of Williamsport Consistory, Towanda Lodge of Perfection; Columbia Grange, Charter member of Sylvania Lions Club; Troy Rotary Club.".

April, 1947 - "AVERY, James W. = aged 85, died in the Troy Community Hospital Monday afternoon, March 31, 1947. Mr. Avery was one of the best-known men in the Township, being active in Republican County Committee, Trojan Lodge No 306 F and A M, and the Williamsport Consistory. Mr. Avery was born on October 6, 1861, in Rutland Township, Tioga Co, son of the late John W. and Clarissa Bailey Avery (these parents are an error). He is survived by his wife, Cora Knapp Avery, a son, Elmer A. Avery, and a daughter, Miss Nell Avery, at home. He was taken to his late home yesterday and the funeral will be held Thursday at 2 pm with burial in the Watson cemetery, Roseville. Rev. Orey Crippen and Rev. Paul Diehl officiating.".

1940 - "Averys Celebrate 55th Wedding Anniversary. Married in Roseville by Rev. Rockwell, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Avery, Columbia Township, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with a family reunion Monday evening, Feb 26th, 1940, in their home. Friends were welcomed during the day and evening.
Mrs. Avery was the former Miss Cora Minerva Knapp. She and James W. Avery were married in Roseville in February 26. 1885 by the Rev. A.G. Rockwell. They lived on their farm near Roseville for 24 years and managed the hotel there from February to October 1995, when the hotel burned. In 1904, they moved to Sylvania where they managed the Sylvania Hotel for three years, retiring to their farm in 1907 where they have since resided.
Mr. and Mrs. Avery have two children, Elmer E Avery and Miss Nedd Avery; also two grandsons, Donald and Dale Avery, all of Columbia Township."

Survived by daughter, Miss Nell Avery at home; son Elmer of Troy; sisters, Mrs. Mae Lee of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Emma Rouse of Rutland, Pa.; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Body at Vickery Funeral Home, Troy. Funeral there Thursday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Cyril Houston and the Rev. Orrie Crippen, Roseville, Pa., Cemetery.".

September 5, 1913 - "School opened on Monday with a good attendance. Miss Creasie R. Hanna teaches again this year."

June 6, 1918 - "(Sylvania News) A baby boy came to gladden the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Avery on Monday, June 3rd. They have named him Donald."

December 1980 - "Services for Creasie Hanna Avery, 92, formerly of Sylvania, recently of Ephrata, Pa. was held Dec. 26 at the Vickery Funeral Home with the Rev. George Ogden officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy. Mrs Avery died on Dec. 22, 1980. She was a member of Sylvania Church of Christ and Order of the Eastern Star in Troy. The widow of Elmer E. Avery she is survived by two sons, Donald G. of Troy and Dale H. of Stevens, Pa.; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren, five nieces and nieces.".
