August 23, 1942 - "WILLIAM SPRAGUE, ATTORNEY, 56, DIES

TORRINGTON. Conn.. Aug. 22—William B. Sprague. member of the law firm of Sprague, Seymour& Sprague in New York. died here today in the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital of injuries received several day ago in ft fall at his Summer home in near-by Morris. His age was 59.
Mr. Sprague. a specialist In real estate law. formerly was attorney for the Trinity Church Corporation and the James McCreery Realty Corporation In New York. For the last twelve years he had been a collector of early American Industrial implements, which ha had placed on exhibition in his barn. His collection was on- of the finest of its kind in the country.
In connection with his hobby, Mr. Sprague was founder and president of an organization known as the Early American Industries Association, which haa a membership of several hundred. He was also editor of the association's publication, the Chronicle.
Mr. Sprague was Blom in Flushing. L. I. on Oct. 26. 1885, the son of Edward E. and Hannah Hoover Sprague. He attended St. Paul's School. Garden City, L. I.. was graduated in 1906 from Yale University. with A.B. degree, and was a member of the Glee Club there.
In 1909 he received a law degree from Columbia University and began practice with his father. Later, he formed the firm of Sprague, Seymour & Sprague. During the first World War, Mr. Sprague served as a captain in chemical warfare service of the Army.
He was a member of the Yale Club, the Down Town Association and the City Bar Association.
He leaves a widow, the former Miss Valeria F. Wilmerding, whom he married in February, 1911; a daughter. Mrs. Peter H. Nicholas; a son. Lieutenant William B. Sprague Jr., U. S. A.; two sisters, Mrs. Ozias Dodge of Norwich and Mrs. Robert H. Boyd of Litchfield, and a brother, Edward B. Sprague of South Norwalk."

"WILMERDING, CHARLES H. -- Born at New York city, August 19, 1858. Son of Charles H. and Harriet Burnham Russ Wilmerding. His first paternal ancestor in America was his great-great-grandfather, who came from Brunswick, Germany, and settled in New York. On his mother's side the first known ancestor came from England in 1617, and settled in New England. Charles Henry Wilmerding received his education partly in Germany and France, and in this country attended Yale College. He came to Chicago in 1888, having been educated as a civil engineer, and practiced that profession from 1879 until coming to this city. Since that time he has been engaged as an electrical engineer. Mr. Wilmerding has paid considerable attention to electrical matters and has become identified with several corporations of that character. He is the general manager of the Chicago Arc Light and Power Co.; is president of the Chicago Sectional Electric Underground Co., and president of the Compress Wheel Co. Mr Wilmerding is rather socially inclined and holds a membership in the Chicago, Union, Athletic, Literary and Electric clubs. He was married June 12, 1889, to Miss Lily Valeria Fay, and has two children, Valeria Fay, and Charles Henry Wilmerding, Jr.".

June 13, 1889 - "St. James Church was the scene of a brilliant and fashionable wedding last night at 7 o'clock. The bride was Miss Lillian Fay, sister of Norman Fay of the Chicago Gas Trust, and the groom was Mr. C.H. Wilmerding, Secretary and Treasurer of the Chicago Arc Light and Power Company. The bridesmaids were Misses Bowes and Ely, and the ushers Messrs. H Wilmerding, Fred Swift, Arthur Aldis, Stuyvesant Leroy, James Deering, A.S. Nonticote, G.L. Wilmerding and Richard Fay. After the ceremony the bridal party and a number of friends were given a wedding supper at the residence of Mr. Norman Fay, No. 43 Bellevue place. Mr. Wilmerding and his bride left after the reception for an extended Eastern trip.".
