1 Richard de BAYLEY1,2 (1381-1441) [14532]. Born 12 Oct 1381.1 Died 29 May 1441.1
From A History of the Family of Sherborn, we learn that the father Richard Sherburne (who married Agnes Stanley) was actually born Richard Bayley (or de Bayley). He was born in 1381 and is reported to have died May 29, 1441, just 4 days after his son Richard.
Richard Sherburne (who married Agnes Stanley) was actually born Richard Bayley (or de Bayley). From Gentlemen's Magazine: And Historical Chronicle by Sylvanus Urban, 1824, sheds some light on this. The parents of Richard were Richard de Bayley and Margaret de Shireburne. Richard de Bayley died in 1379-80. Son Richard assumed the name Sherburne (apparently a variation of his mother's maiden name, see below). This information is confirmed in the The History of the County Palantine and Duchy of Lancaster by Edward Baines, William Robert Whatton, Brooke Herford, James Croston, 1891. We also learn the Richard de Bayley married Margaret de Sherburne in 1377 and that her father was Richard de Sherburne who died in 1373.
A very nice website called "The Family de Mitton; Ancient History and Legacy" confirms the above and also reports that the son Richard (formerly de Bayley and then Sherburne or Shireburne) was born October 12, 138.

6 Richard DE SHERBURNE3,4,5 ( -1361) [14535]. Marr Alice DE PLUMPTON 1352.5 Died 1361.3,5
We know that Margaret Sherburne's father was Richard Sherburne. Gentlemens Magazine: and Historical Chronicles by Sylvanus Urban, 1824 reports that Richard Sherburne married Alice Plumpton (or de Plumpton) and that Alice's father was William de Plumpton. Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists Who Came to America Before 1700 By Frederick Lewis Weis, 2004 confirms this marriage and reports that it took place in 1352. Note that this says that Richard Shireburne died in 1361, instead of the 1373 reported in The History of County Palantine. It appears that 1361 is correct. This is the date shown in several other sources and fits with the report in the above mentioned Ancestral Roots that Alice married for a second time in 1364.
