From Samuel Richardson and Josiah Ellsworth; Some Descendents, 1974 compiled by Ruth Ellsworth Richardson, it is reported that Robert and his brother John are twins born ca 1619 in England. John's date of birth is reported to be 1624 in Genealogy of the Fitch Family in North America, 1886 by John G. Fitch.

"Rose, Robert, s. of Robert. Colonial grant of 50 acres, May 1668, for service in Pequot War (1637).

Born about 1619, came with his parents on the Frances in 1634 aged 15. Settled in Wethersfield, rem. to Branford, and soon after 1655 to Stratford, where he d. early in 1683.

Married Rebecca (???). She m. (2) in 1685, Henry Allen.

On 1 Nov. 1679, Robert Rose of Stratford conveyed to son-in-law Moses Johnson of Woodbury, land in Woodbury, "granted to me as gratification for servis don by me in ye pequad war."

Inv. 9 Mar. 1682/3. Widow Rebecca; children Mary Johnson, Rebecca Stevens, and Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah, and Mercy Rose. Agreement 10 June 1685 between Rebecca Rose, widow; Moses Johnson; Isaac Bennett for himself and his brother-in-law Obadiah Stephens; and John Minor, Jr.; making allowance for their two sisters-in-law Hannah and Mercy Rose.

In 1685 Moses Johnson of Woodbury conveyed to father-in-law Henry Allyn of Stratford all right in Est. of Robert Rose lying undivided between the children of said Rose. A mutual distribution was made 1686 by the heirs to Est. of Robert Rose, viz.: Henry Allyn in behalf of Moses Johnson; Obadiah Stephens of Stamford; Isaac Bennet and wife Elizabeth, for himself and in behalf of John Minor, Jr., and Hannah Rose. [Stratford Deeds.]".

"Robert Rose, 1594-1664, was a soldier in the Pequot War and a Representative to the General Court, 1641-43."

"Robert Rose, of Wethersfield, 1639, from Watertown, Mass, came in the Francis, from Ipswich, Suffolk Co., Eng, in 1634, aged 40, with wife Margery, aged 40, and children. Was Constable, 1640; Representative, 1641,'42'43; removed before 1648, to Stratford; and, in list of frcemen, 1659. He died at Branferd, 1665, leaving a good estate. Children, (all but the youngest born in England.) John, born 1624; Robert; Elizabeth, born 1626; Mary, born 1628; Samuel, born 1632; Daniel, born 1636; Dorcas, born 1637."

"I. Robert Rose 1594-1665 of Wethersfield, Conn. 1639 came in t
FRANCIS 1634 from Ipswich, England. He was a widower wh
moved with others to the new town of Branford 1644. "He w
regarded as a wealthy man owning 10 horses when there were
not as many more in town." It is said he also owned 10 cow
He was a religious man and gave the Sunday milking to the
poor. His Bible printed in 1599 has been handed down in t
family.
In 1655 he was one of the two largest proprietors in the town of Branford with an estate lof L 100. A New Haven record states "he was asked to hire a bull for the town."

Robert and his 1st wf Margery were both age 40 yr. when they came to America. After Margery's death he m 2nd Elizabeth (???) who was twice widowed 1st from John Potter who left 3 ch and 2nd from Edward Parker who left 4 ch. Elizabeth d July 8, 1677.

Robert Rose was Constable 1650; Juror 1641; Representative to Gen. Court 1641-3; moved to Stratford before 1648; served in Pequot War.

"The Rose family, of which Mrs. Emma (Rose) Cooley is a representative, traces its ancestry to Robert Rose, of Wethersfield, in 1639, who came in the ship "Francis" from Ipswich, county of Suffolk, in 1634. He died in 1665 in East Hampton; had wife, Margery, and children: 2. John (2), born 1619; 3. Robert (2), born 1619; 4. Elizabeth (2), born 1621; 5. Mary (2), born 1623; 6. Samuel (2), born 1625; 7. Sarah (2), born 1627; 8. Daniel (2), born 1631; 9, Dorcas (2), born 1632; 10. Thomas (2), born 1635."

Died shortly after his second marriage in 1664. Will was proven April 4, 1665.
