"Daniel Swayne younger son of William, born in England, was one of the founders of the town of Branford in 1644, and remained there. He was Representative from 1673-77. He married, in 1651, Dorcas daughter of Robert Rose of Stratford, Conn. Of his family only his son John, who died in Branford in 1694, and his daughter Deborah, and Dorcas who married a Taintor and afterwards. a Wheeler, left children.".

"For the settlement of Branford a tract of land was sold to "Mr. William Swayne" and others. He removed there in 1644, and had laid out to him 435 acres of land. He probably died there not long after, as his name, previously so prominent, seems to have disappeared from the records. His children of whom we have farther knowledge were Samuel and Daniel, who removed with him to Branford in 1644, and Mary who is said to have gone to New Haven. "Robert Rose, 1594-1664, was a soldier in the Pequot War and a Representative to the General Court, 1641-43."

"Robert Rose, of Wethersfield, 1639, from Watertown, Mass, came in the Francis, from Ipswich, Suffolk Co., Eng, in 1634, aged 40, with wife Margery, aged 40, and children. Was Constable, 1640; Representative, 1641,'42'43; removed before 1648, to Stratford; and, in list of frcemen, 1659. He died at Branferd, 1665, leaving a good estate. Children, (all but the youngest born in England.) John, born 1624; Robert; Elizabeth, born 1626; Mary, born 1628; Samuel, born 1632; Daniel, born 1636; Dorcas, born 1637."

He was a religious man and gave the Sunday milking to the
poor. His Bible printed in 1599 has been handed down in t
family.
In 1655 he was one of the two largest proprietors in the town of Branford with an estate lof L 100. A New Haven record states "he was asked to hire a bull for the town."
Robert and his 1st wf Margery were both age 40 yr. when they came to America. After Margery's death he m 2nd Elizabeth (???) who was twice widowed 1st from John Potter who left 3 ch and 2nd from Edward Parker who left 4 ch. Elizabeth d July 8, 1677.
Robert Rose was Constable 1650; Juror 1641; Representative to Gen. Court 1641-3; moved to Stratford before 1648; served in Pequot War.

"The Rose family, of which Mrs. Emma (Rose) Cooley is a representative, traces its ancestry to Robert Rose, of Wethersfield, in 1639, who came in the ship "Francis" from Ipswich, county of Suffolk, in 1634. He died in 1665 in East Hampton; had wife, Margery, and children: 2. John (2), born 1619; 3. Robert (2), born 1619; 4. Elizabeth (2), born 1621; 5. Mary (2), born 1623; 6. Samuel (2), born 1625; 7. Sarah (2), born 1627; 8. Daniel (2), born 1631; 9, Dorcas (2), born 1632; 10. Thomas (2), born 1635."
Died shortly after his second marriage in 1664. Will was proven April 4, 1665.
