August 16, 1918 - "Chauncey Bates Dead - Chauncey Bates, for many years a well known resident of this village and locality, passed away at his home here Thursday morning, August 15, 1918, after several week's illness of spinal trouble. Chauncey was always kindly and genial, with a good word for everybody, and will be sadly missed by a wide circle of acquaintances. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, the latter being Mrs. Clyde Rose, of County Line and Miss Jean, at home.".
