11 Esther Miranda WRIGHT19,20 (1834-1906) [7228]. Born 17 Feb 1834, Tioga Centre, NY.19,20 Died 8 May 1906, Auburn, NY.20

The 1870 census indicates Miranda was born about 1822, which seems unlikely. We believe the dates of 1831 - 1833 in other records are more likely to be correct. Her obituary which was finally located in the Auburn Citizen (Auburn, NY) finally has a correct birthdate.

June 2, 1906 - "A TRIBUTE - Words of Commendation of Late Mrs. Hester M. Woodcock.
Mrs. Hester M. Woodcock was born Feb 17, 1834, at Tioga Centre and died on Tuesday evening, May 8, 1906, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Ohart of Auburn.
Her sudden death was a shock to her many friends. Mrs. Woodcock was a faithful, loyal Christian worker not only in the Wall Street M.E. church but in the work for temperance. She was a member of Frances E. Willard Woman's Christian Temperance union ever since the organization of that union 15 years ago. She spent over 40 years of her life working for this great cause. In her earlier life she was a member of the Loyal Temperance Legion, and was one of its organizers, also a member of the good Templars.
When strength was hers, she was known many times to break barrels of whiskey and of beer, and watch the contents run out upon the ground. How many fallen ones have been lifted by her prayers and helping hand, even dragging men, unconscious from the accursed drink, from in front of a fast approaching train.
In out Frances E. Willard Woman's Christian Temperance union, her especial work had been among the prisoners and jailers, where she has done an endless amount of good; we can not even estimate the number who through her efforts and prayers have been brought to Christ, and to abhor liquor.
Her presence at the meeting of the union has always been so helpful, she was an inspiration to all about her. Our dear sister is sorely missed, not only at these meetings but in her beloved church, for she never was so happy as when working for her lord and master. We do extend to the beloved daughter and family the heartfelt sympathy of every member of Frances E. Willard Union.".
