"Edward Dondero, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Dondero, South Lafayette, is at home on a furlough from the Great Lakes Training Station, where he has been in training since he enlisted November 8th. Through study and hard work, he has been promoted to the rank of Junior Commander of Company I, Seventh Regiment, and has 72 men under his command. He is deeply interested and enjoys his work, and thinks the Navy is a splendid opportunity for young men.".

January 18, 1894 - "Gus Dondero has moved into the Greenfield House on Woodward avenue."
June 10, 1898 - "Gus Dondero, from Greenfield, is running the Royal Oak House. Said building is undergoing extensive repairs, and a flag is now unfurled to the breeze."
February 9, 1900 - "The way of the transgressor is hard." We understand that Gus Dondero and Al Hupert, saloonmen, were complained of for keeping open places on Sunday. They were each fined $200 and costs of court."
September 21, 1900 - "Gus Dondero is digging a large pond on his land on Mill Ave., employing quite a number of men. He is digging it for ice for his ice house. Hurrah for skating this winter."
March 1, 1901 - "Mr. Dondero, proprietor of the Royal Oak House, having sold out his interest to Julius Brown, has moved into the Dondero house on Washington avenue."
November 4, 1921. - "GUSTAVUS DONDERO, 52, conducts confectionery and bakery on Main street; has lived in city 30 years. Brother of George A. Dondero, Member of village council and of school board for several terms 1900-1905; formerly conducted hotel here. Residence: 219 West Harrison avenue."

Richard H. Rose and family lived at 218 West Harrison for many many years including 1921. The two homes must certainly have been directly across the street from each other. Gus Dondero, was elected to one of 6 commissioner positions in the same election that George, his brother, became the first mayor of the city of Royal Oak. Gus was the grandfather of Dana and Phil Dondero.

September 10, 1891 - "The wedding of Mr. Gustavus Dondero, of Detroit, and Miss Ida Granger of Royal Oak, took place on Tuesday, September 1."
July 14, 1922 - "OBITUARY - Mrs. Gustavus Dondero. Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Isabell Dondero, wife of Gustavus Dondero, city commissioner and owner of Dondero Confectionery on Main street, were held at the home at 502 South Lafayette avenue Thursday afternoon. Rev. George E. Dawkins of the Royal Oak Baptist church and Rev. Walter F. Hetzel of the Royal Oak Emmanuel Evangelical church officiated. Burial will be in Oakview cemetery as soon as her son, Edward, arrives from Los Angeles, California. City commissioners acted as pall-bearers. Mrs Dondero died Monday morning in Highland Park General Hospital where she had been taken for a serious operation. She was born in Detroit, January 24, 1873. While still a small girl her parents moved to the present location of the MachPelah cemetery, Ferndale, where her father owned a saw mill. She lived here until she married Gustavus Dondero on September 1, 1891, when they moved to Royal Oak. She is survived by two sons, Donald F. of Royal Oak and Edward L. of Los Angeles, besides her husband. Donald was married to Miss Cleo Coyle recently. Mrs Dondero was a sister-in-law of Mayor George A. Dondero.".

From the Royal Oak Tribune, August 5, 1921. "Mrs. Teetah Wilcox-Dondero, of Santa Rita, New Mexico, is spending the summer with her mother, Mrs. K.H. Wilcox, having been called here on account of the death of her sister, Mrs. Gladys Wilcox-Mack. Her husband, Edward Dondero, is in Los Angeles, but expects to return to Royal Oak in the fall.".

Wilcox returned Thursday from a business trip to New York relative to a South American deal which involves the building of several hundred miles of electric railway both for passenger and freight service, in which English capital is to be largely represented. Mr. Wilcox's associates in the country are principally California capitalists".

"OLD NEWSPAPERMAN IS DEAD IN DETROIT - William O. Wilcox, who started his newspaper career on The News a quarter century ago, and who was identified with many of the largest publications in the middle west, died Sunday in Detroit after a period of ill-health which lasted several months. On the arrival of a sister from Los Angeles, an announcement of funeral arrangements will be made. Wilcox's career included important positions on the Cincinnati Post, Cleveland World, Minneapolis Daily News ad Chicago Inter-Ocean. He was born in Detroit, the son of Capt. Orville Wilcox, of Trowbridge & Wilcox, ship chandlers.".

1880-04-21 - "Mr. S.C. Peters, of Boyd & Peters, the showmen, is evidentally as susceptible to feminine charms as any man, and while the "animilies" were wintering at Royal Oak, Peters succesfully wooed and won Miss Kittie Dows, and April 1 they went to Detroit and were spliced in good shape by Rev. Z. Eddy, D.D."
1881-01-05 - "There were quite a number of valuable presents received by the ladies of this village [Royal Oak] and will just mention a few. 1st a hundred dollars to Mrs. Delia Gregory from her husband. 2nd a very nice oil painting to Mrs. Flora Allen. 3rd a neat little toilet set to Miss Julia Erb. 4th a set of $80 underware to Mrs. Kittie Peters."
1881-12-28 - "The Congregational church gave a very pleasant Christmas tree entertainment on Saturday evening. The church was handsomely decorated and brilliantly lighted. The exercises were opened with singing by the glee club. Miss Emma Brown and Miss Nellie Rennels made the presentations. Some of the presents were very comical and others very expensive and handsome. A.W. Decker received a pair of robes; a very handsome set of new furs for Dr. Glazier; Mrs. Douse received a full set of table silver valued at $150; a present from her daughter Mrs. Peters. Mrs. Gregory received a set of diamond ear rings."

December 2, 1881 - "Mrs. Kittie Peters is regaining her health since her return to Michigan."
October 30, 1884 - "Married, in Detroit, Mr. William Wilcox to Miss Kittie Peters of this place [RO]."
April 5, 1912 - "Sunday morning about 2 o'clock Mrs. W.O. Wilcox was awakened by the antics of her dog which was in the house. The animal kept jumping against the door which opens from the kitchen into the dining room until he forced it open and when they went into the kitchen they were horrified to discover the kitchen on fire. If the fire had not been discovered just at that time the house and contents would have been a smouldering mass of ruins, as it was only small damage was done, the curtains were all burned and the walls were scorched quite Badley. The family are at a loss to know how the fire originated as there was no fire in the kitchen stove at that time of the morning."

"Mrs. Kittie H. Wilcox, 25857 Concord road, Huntington Woods, died at noon, Friday, at her home. Christian Science services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the William Sullivan and Son funeral home, 705 West Eleven Mile road, Royal Oak. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. Mrs. Wilcox was born at Woodward and Main street in Pleasant Ridge. Her parents were the late Harriet D. Carew and Joseph Dowse. She formerly lived in Cleveland and for a number of years her home was at the present location of Hedges Wigwam. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Edward L. (Teetah) Dondero of the Concord road address; three grandchildren, Teetah C., Dana M., and Philip W., all at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Dollie B. Parent of Ferndale and Mrs. N.G. (Bessie) James of Pleasant Ridge. She was the wife of the late William and mother of the late Gladys C. Mack."
